Only one question: does this game really have to flash everytime I get hit? I mean these black screen-red screen-black screen..., it is really disturbing, making eyes hurt and when the game returns to normal mode you aren't at first sure where exactly are you.
The graphics is great, music & sound too, but about the gameplay... I bet that nobody will ever be able to get the 250/500 medals, prove me if I am wrong by getting them to show the others that it is possible - a "little" challenge for the Author :-) It's a matter of a classic dilemma whether the God can create a rock that he could not lift. Did the Developer create a game that he could not beat? ;-)
I thought the same about Flappy Bird. But, at least, I got 244 points, after 1 mio tries, I guess. I think it's possible. But I think it would be nicer as an Android App.
I must say I liked this game and this specific double jump is quite nice and useful when you get used to it. I only didn't like the slippy movement on the short platforms. Oh, one thing; I finished this game twice already, the final medal popped out, but did not unlock for me. I am also not present on the score list, why?
Thank you so much for your kind words and taking the time to play through the game (twice!) :D
Hmm, I'm not really sure why the final medal does not unlock/score list post, but I would love to be able to figure it out and fix it! I'm assuming you got all the way to the Congratulations screen where the final score displays? I don't suppose you happened to check the in-game achievements (through the ui button/seperate time played screen) to see if it unlocked there?
Unfortunately, I'm not super familiar with the NG's api stuff so if the medal does pop up but just doesn't register to your account, it means the event was at least triggered in the Stencyl program...and that's about as far as I know. One slight possibility could be that adblock may affect medals/scores if you happen to have that enabled? If not, I guess I'll just have to search for the flaw somewhere along the way and see if I can fix it :P
The game is interesting, you've got to think where to jump and when, but you should work a bit on winds' movement. I am currently waiting for about half of an hour on level 8 for one of the winds to move to be able to proceed, but it just got stucked on one creature and it won't budge. It would be good to be able to quit a life, but with the initial winds' placement. Oh, and I played & finished level 5 on all difficulties and I did not get the Level 5 medal.
Thanks for the review. I have the winds moving randomly which can be real aggravating. Level 8 is my nemesis. To get the Level 5 medal, you have to kill the bottom right Beast! Almost impossible. I have only done it once. The other medals are much easier to get. Do you have any issues with collecting the other medals?
Ok, we got a mix of skill-collect and skill-avoid here. The game is simple, but rather repetetive. One thing: I don't know if for others too, but for me the more I play it, the morethe game lags, after a while it even lags horribly. It also needs a pause button and maybe asteroids/spaceships counters. And maybe something that would make this game more attractive for a longer gameplay, other spaceship types or even a power-up system. About using spaceship parts: I found it more successful in blocking me from picking other asteroids.
I might add more stuff to the game in the future. I did try to add a pause button, but for some reason it didn't seem to work. I'll add it as soon as possible.
An interesting game, but the same issue as for Badgirlqc, the medals don't seem to work perfectly. I just got the first steps medal, but before:
1) Was playing 100% logged in, since I have "never log off" turned on;
2) Was connected;
3) Playing without ad-block and for example the Welcome medal did not unlock, and it should rather be earned before first steps.
I hope the further ones will work just fine, because it is an interesting thing to play.
Hmm... None of my other games have this medal issue. I played a few of the other Stencyljam games, and it seems that they are having medal issues as well. This is looking like a Stencyl specific problem. I had no issue while I was play testing. Yes, "Welcome!" should be the first medal gotten. Really odd that it works for some and not others...
I will look into it, and if I find a solution, I will be sure to update it! As the save file will be the same, when you turn the game on, your times played variable will be the same and thus unlock the medals. :)
Why not enabling arrows as well?
I observed one thing, I wonder if you could explain it to me: I keep the sword/shield attack button pressed. The time distance between subsequent attacks are the same. Distance between the enemies in a row are the same. Then how is it possible that I kill for example 3 of them and the 4th one grabs me? Something is illogical here.
I agree with Someaveragechap, the controls and the game itself are way too slow, sometimes when I want to jump from the crouch position it first takes about 2 seconds to stand up and then another 1-2 seconds to jump, while for example some bullets or bats already hit me. This leads to a conclusion that the game is a bit unbalanced when it comes to speed of enemies vs your own speed of movement.
The controls are indeed a little slow but I don't think in the manner you described. Crouching to jumping should be very quick. It sounds like perhaps you crouch attacked and you couldn't move during the attack cool down period. Movement speeds and cool down are both improved as you level up and purchase upgrades. It's not the best mechanism, but it is a mechanism at the end of the day.
Thanks for the feedback though. I do agree that quicker controls would be better overall.
